Victory Life

Jesus Christ promised His followers that having a life of abundance is absolutely possible (John 10:10).  The life of abundance is meant to be a life of victory–over problems, situations and circumstances.  Even in the midst of everyday challenges, God’s purpose for His people is to overcome whatever circumstances–no matter how difficult they may seem at the moment. “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Rom. 8:37).  In the world there is always the expectation that seasons of difficulty will come into our lives, and yet, God assures us that even as Christ was victorious, we can also be victorious. “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

Christians in the first century experiences some of the most difficult experiences–suffering, persecution, even death–yet Jesus Christ gave them the assurance that they would “overcome the world” even as did their Master.  The empowerment to become an overcomer is through placing all of us trust and faith in the power of the word of God. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.  And this is the victory that has overcome the world–[even] our faith” (I John 5:4).  Faith in the word of God releases the power of God to work in our daily lives today even as it did during the time period the Bible refers to as “the last days” leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70.  The example of these New Testament people of faith during the most difficult of times serves to prove to us that it is possible to live the life of an overcomer.
